The child’s caregiver chooses the school best suited for the child. Some of our students will return to their local public school because of specialized education program or family preference. These kids continue in New Bedford Star Kids and are given opportunities for tutoring, after school programs, summer camps and mentoring.
Schools are selected on the basis of their willingness and demonstrated capacity to effectively educate at-risk children. These “non-public” schools include independent schools, Catholic schools and Christian schools.
Schools must possess the following qualities: a principal who understands and supports the mission, small size, safe environment, high expectations and a commitment to caring and character building.
