New Bedford Star Kids Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to qualifying K-12 students in the Greater New Bedford/ Southcoast area with the intention of supporting a variety of educational opportunities.
Applications for the 26/27 school year have closed. Please see below for our application timeline.
March 6th – Application Deadline:
- All applications and proofs must be submitted by 11:59 PM.
- Please allow enough time to submit your fully completed application by this date
March 7th – April 10th – Review Period:
- Committee reviews and evaluates applications based on established criteria.
- Final decisions are made, and scholarship recipients are identified.
April 13th – Decisions Communicated:
- Applicants are notified of their status via email and/or phone.
TBD – Induction Ceremony:
- Scholarship recipients and their families are welcomed into the New Bedford Star Kids Scholarship Program at a formal induction ceremony.

New Bedford Star Kids Scholarship Program provides financial support for:
- Tuition*, Uniforms, Books, School Supplies
- Extracurricular activities, including sports, music and the arts
- Summer Camps and Programs
- Tutoring
Eligibility Requirements: (The applications are reviewed by a committee to determine eligibility.)
- Have at least one parent with a documented history of incarceration OR have at least one parent with a documented history of substance abuse AND
- Entering Grades K-Grade 12 AND
- Must live in the service area of Greater New Bedford/Southcoast Massachusetts AND
- Be considered low income- 60% of the state median income
- Documentation of incarceration (ex. court documents, case ruling, parole report, criminal history report, background report etc. (if applicable))
- Documentation of substance abuse (ex. any documentation explaining, referring to, or directly addressing related substance abuse from a substance abuse treatment program, a social worker, counselor, sponsor, or relevant professional (if applicable))
- Proof of Income (ex. 4 consecutive paystubs, a disability or retirement allotment letter, or an unemployment determination)
- Teacher Recommendation Form ( for students entering grades 1-12)
- Counselor Recommendation Form (if applicable)
Once you are accepted in the program, there is no need to reapply. We require that all students and families maintain communication with New Bedford Star Kids including thank you notes to sponsors, joining us at events, and providing us with any information essential to the student’s education.
